Indonesia–1998

This photo was taken while traveling by motorcycle through farmland in Bali. I stopped when I noticed a group of children working the fields – doing what appeared to be very labour intensive work.

As I approached, the children began to take great interest in me, and what I was doing. They were so eager that they started posing for the camera – something that often happens. While it’s good to have willing subjects, I normally don’t like when people pose. When it happens I try to remedy the situation by starting a conversation, and that’s what I did here.

This one girl seemed to trust me implicitly, and let me get extremely close to take the photo. I often come across children who seem very thoughtful for their young years, and I found this to be the case with this girl.
