Indonesia–1998

Often times subjects are very curious as to why someone would want to capture them on film – that was the case in this extremely rural region of Indonesia.

It was the setting that struck me first – the trees literally formed a canopy over this particular road, and the whole scene was lush and photogenic. I hoped I would find someone to photograph in this setting, and luck was with me as I spotted this man carrying a bamboo fishing rod and wearing a traditional bamboo hat, walking down the road. I think the expression on his face says all that’s needed about his wonder at why I would want to take this photo.
