“Driving along the road from Pavolitch to Kiev, I saw a local farmer drive into a pond to give his horse a drink. I found it a fascinating and timeless image, one that captures both the dignity and character of this farmer. I felt in many ways not much had changed since my own grandparents had lived there in the early 1900’s.”
